The Stony Brook Seawolves are known for their deliberate attack and terrific defense and they did nothing to change our opinion in their 62-57 quarterfinal victory against Binghamton. A late surge broke open a nip and tuck contest and sent the Bearcats home. Binghamton held a slight 43%-38.5% shooting edge but they were done in by the Seawolves 17-9 advantage at the line and 17 turnovers.Carson Purifoy and RayShaun McGrew netted 14 points apiece with McGrew snagging eight boards and Puriefoy posting five assists. Jameel Warmey added eleven points and hauled in a contest high 14 rebounds while Rooland Nyama chipped in with eight points.
The Vermont Catamounts hardly broke sweat in their quarterfinal rout of MD Baltimore City in what proved to be the largest mismatch of the night. This one was in the books soon after the opening tip with the Retrievers staring at a 32-16 deficit. The UMBC defense struggled throughout with the Catamounts connecting at 47% including an 8-20 effort from beyond the arc. On the flip side the Catamounts allowed under 33% marksmanship and forced 19 turnovers. Hector Harold paced a balanced attack with 14 points on 4-5 from deep while Ethan O’Day tossed in 12 points on 5-6 shooting. Drew Urquhart and Trae Bell Haynes rounded out the top contributors with a combined 19 points with Bell-Haynes posting five helpers.
The Seawolves are 4-1 ATS in their last 5 road games and 6-2-1 ATS in their last 9 games following a S.U. win. Stony Brook are 3-7 ATS in their last 10 games following a ATS loss and 3-7-1 ATS in their last 11 vs. America East. The Catamounts are 5-1 ATS in their last 6 home games vs. a team with a winning road record and 1-4-1 ATS in their last 6 vs. America East. Vermont are 1-5-1 ATS in their last 7 Sunday games and 1-5 ATS in their last 6 games vs. a team with a winning % above .600. I just think points in a close game are too valuable to pass up…
