The USC Upstate Spartans crushed Kennesaw State in the Atlantic Sun opener before squeezing by Florida Gulf Coast to reach the semifinals. The 2nd seed Eagles led late and looked like they would be heading to the championship but 35% shooting took it’s toll. The Spartans hit at 42% with the rest of the boxscore close enough to say a bounce or two decided the out come. Ty Greene shouldered the offense with a team high 20 points and five yanks on 6-19 accuracy followed by a 4 point, ten rebound and five assists from Fred Miller. ShuQuez Stephens added 15 points and seven boards on 4-10 with Marvin Smith chipping in with seven but the offensive needed more options.
The top ranked have had zero problem in knocking off their two opponents to reach the Atlantic Sun title game. Wagner fell behind the Ospeys early in their 1st round matchup and the Bison did the same in the semis with UNF ahead by 13 at the break. North Florida hit shots at almost 40% and held a 12 point edge at the stripe to easily outdistance the Seahawks 32% and 12 more looks at the basket. While the Seahawks were balanced on offense UNF was explosive behind a 36 point performance from Dallas Moore on 12-17 from the field
Chris Davenport added 15 points and nine boards with Jalen Nesbitt and Beau Beech combining for 13 points and 14 rebounds. Not a balanced attack but it didn’t need to be.
The Spartans are 5-0-2 ATS in their last 7 road games vs. a team with a home winning % of greater than .600 and 5-0-2 ATS in their last 7 road games.Upstate are 5-0-2 ATS in their last 7 road games vs. a team with a winning home record and 6-1-2 ATS in their last 9 games vs. a team with a winning % above .600. The Osprey are 1-4 ATS vs. a team with a winning % above .600. Boy I hate to lay points in this game but North Florida has been a wrecking crew…
