The Delaware State Hornets were owners of a 15-16 record with a decent 9-7 mark in the MEAC. The Hornets success was whether or not they were able to run the floor and score points which was a necessity with opponents able to do their share of scoring.. DSU was outscored 73-72 with their lone signature win coming against Wake Forest.
Unless Delaware State suddenly discovers some defense then points will be needed from their scorers. Amere May is a nice guy to have on the floor when points are needed with his team high 21 point average on 42% and four pulls. Kendall Gray can be a dominant interior player with his 12 points and 12 rebounds on 55% marksmanship. Tyshawn Bell gives the team another eleven points and five boards with Kendal Williams giving the Hornets another potential double digit scorer.
The Savannah State Tigers were something of an afterthought with a 9-21 record and 5-11 mark in conference action. The Tigers had major issues at both ends of the floor but this was an offense that struggled to break 60 points. Savannah State was outscored 67-57 on the number 308 strength of schedule which tells us something there but I am surprised this team defeated Cleveland State and Winthrop.
If Savannah State is going to do something in the playoffs either the offense has to begin scoring or the defensive end of the floor becomes shutdown and nether has happened often so in my view pushing the score in to the mid 60’s is a good place to start and not out of the question. Terel Hall is the only double digit scorer at around 10.5 points on 48% shooting so he could possibly give the offense a bit more. Brian Pearson and Saadiq Muhammad shoot the ball well also so give your best shooters the ball and see what happens.
The Tigers are 2-5 ATS in their last 7 games following a S.U. loss. The Hornets are 4-9 ATS in their last 13 games following a S.U. win and 1-4 ATS in their last 5 vs. Mid-Eastern Athletic while going 2-11 ATS in their last 13 neutral site games. Laying this many points in the MEAC is something I won’t do so I’ll be sitting out for now…
