For the Tulane Green Wave it wasn’t how you start but how you finish and that wasn’t a good thing. The Green Wave ended the regular season losing 10-12 to post an overall record of 15-15 and 6-12 in the conference which was disappointing with a winning record well within grasp. The offense scored and allowed 64 points but seldom broke 60 points in their season ending slide.
A trio of double digit scorers produced more then half of the offense and need to do at least that if the team expects to move forward in the postseason. Louis Dabney and Jonathan Stark average around 14 and eleven points respectively but have had issues with their shot at 38%.Jay Hook adds eleven points and five boards so in my view this trio has got to step up their game which means more scoring on better shooting.
The Houston Cougars have been an afterthought in the conference with far too little scoring in defeats. The offensive struggles have led to a 12-18 record and a 4-14 mark in AAC play. The Cougars have been outscored 66-65 and connect at less then 40% as a team which has been pivotal when losing although three of the Cougars wins came in a season ending winning streak.
Jherrod Stiggers does a little of everything and leads UH in scoring with 14 points but is a volume shooter at less then 36%. Devonta Pollard and Danrad Knowles combine for 21 points and provide some muscle on the backboards with almost 12 rebounds. The Cougars possess five potential double digit scorers and need every point they can muster which means an general increase in shooting percentage to win in the playoffs.
The Cougars are 4-0 ATS in their last 4 games overall and 4-0 ATS in their last 4 vs. American Athletic Conference. Houston are 4-1 ATS in their last 5 Thursday games and 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games following a ATS win. The Green Wave are 3-7 ATS in their last 10 games overall and 3-7 ATS in their last 10 vs. American Athletic Conference. Tulane are 1-7 ATS in their last 8 neutral site games and 0-5 ATS in their last 5 Thursday games. No real edge here except the Cougars have won three in a row but that’s not enough for me to bet…
