The Maryland-Eastern Shore Hawks were one of the hotter teams in the MEAC to end the season with four consecutive victories to give the team an 18-13 record with a chance at a 20 win year. The Hawks were 11-5 in the conference even though they scored 67 and allowed 67 points with both ends of the floor far outperforming these numbers in the wins which would be a nice way to move ahead in the conference playoffs.
The Hawks have the weapons on offense to make them a threat to win the championship with a pair of double digit scorers and the potential for more. Mike Myers is the undisputed leader of the offense with team highs of 16 points and seven rebounds on 60% marksmanship. Devin Walker adds 14 points on 43% accuracy with Devon Walker, Ryan Andino and Dominique Elliiott the players that have the ability to crack the ten point barrier.
The Hampton Pirates are out to prove their dominating 91-71 rout of Morgan State was no fluke as they hope to continue their scoring in the quarterfinals against Maryland-Eastern Shore. The Pirates broke open a competitive contest with a monster 54 point second half explosion behind 55.6% marksmanship and a 26-20 edge at the stripe to easily outdistance Morgan State’s 40.7% accuracy.
Reginald Johnson and Deron powers were a dynamic combination with 18 points apiece on a combined 9-17 from the floor with Powers handing out five assists. Brian Darden followed with 15 points on 3-5 accuracy while Charles Wilson-Fisher and Ka’Ron Brown netted ten points each on 9-10 accuracy. Overall nine players reached the scoring column.
The Pirates are 5-0 ATS in their last 5 games overall and 5-2 ATS in their last 7 games following a ATS win. Hampton are 7-3 ATS in their last 10 games vs. a team with a winning S.U. record and 9-4 ATS in their last 13 vs. Mid-Eastern Athletic. The Hawks are 5-0 ATS in their last 5 games vs. a team with a losing S.U. record. The trends don’t really hold a lot of weight but my thinking is Hampton can score enough on the Hawks to get a cover or better…
