The Boise State Broncos won the Mountain West regular season crown and their reward is a #25 ranking which they could improve on with a strong performance in the conference postseason. The Broncos went 24-7 overall and 14-4 in the Mountain West. Boise has the best combination of scoring and defense in the league as they outscored the opposition 71-60.
When the Broncos need a basket the ball will generally be in the hands of Derrick Marks who does everything well with emphasis on scoring at 19 points on nearly 51% marksmanship. James Webb II is an eleven point scorer on over 56% shooting while hauling in a team high 7.8 rebounds. This tandem are the obvious centerpieces of the offense but the supporting cast sees five players that score between 4-9 points.
The Air Force Falcons are looking to redeem themselves from a dismal season that saw them finish 10th in the Mountain West. The Falcons took the first step as they came back from a four point deficit at the half to New Mexico to earn a 68-61 victory. AFA was solid at both ends of the floor with the Lobos held to 41.7% accuracy while the Falcons countered at 48% which was decisive.
Zach Kocur was the go to scorer with a contest high 20 points on 6-12 marksmanship which included four makes from beyond the arc. Trevor Lyons followed with a ten point, five assist and five steal performance. Max Yon and Hayden Graham netted seven points apiece with Graham snaring a tem high seven rebounds. Five others added between 4-5 points to give the Falcons plenty of options.
The Falcons are 22-8 ATS in their last 30 neutral site games and 2-5 ATS in their last 7 games overall. Air Force are 2-5 ATS in their last 7 vs. Mountain West and 2-7 ATS in their last 9 games vs. a team with a winning % above .600. The Broncos are 11-2 ATS in their last 13 games following a S.U. win and 10-2 ATS in their last 12 games following a ATS win. Boise State are 13-3 ATS in their last 16 games overall and 17-4 ATS in their last 21 vs. Mountain West. The Broncos are the choice unless something funky happens but this is too rich for my blood…
