The George Washington Colonials (21-11) was able to cruise past the Duquesne Dukes 73-55 to keep their hopes alive of winning the A-10 Tournament and getting an automatic bid. The Rhode Island Rams finished the season with a 21-8 record and earned the 3-seed in the A-10 Tournament with a 13-5 conference record. Rhode Island depends heavily on their defensive as they are not a great shooting team from beyond the arc and have tendency to commit turnovers. The Rams are ranked 68th in the RPI Standings and have played the 174th ranked SOS. Rhode Island’s biggest wins of the season have come against Nebraska, Richmond, and UMass.
Rhode Island averages 67.4 ppg (ranked 172nd) on 45.4% shooting (ranked 82nd). The Rams average just 4.2 three-pointers per game (ranked 337th) on 28.5% three-point shooting (ranked 336th). Rhode Island averages 13.7 turnovers per game (ranked 271st) and 13.1 apg (ranked 139th). Defensively, Rhode Island is holding their opponents to an average of 59.4 ppg (ranked 20th) on 41.0% shooting (ranked 85th). The Rams are holding their opponents to 28.2% shooting from beyond the arc (ranked 5th) and average 5.5 bpg (ranked 13th). On the season, Rhode Island has been led by E.C. Matthews (16.6 ppg, 4.5 rpg, 2.0 apg) and Hassan Martin (11.9 ppg, 7.7 rpg, 3.0 bpg).
The Colonials are 4-0 ATS in their last 4 neutral site games and 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games overall. The Rams are 11-4-1 ATS in their last 16 Friday games and 5-2 ATS in their last 7 games overall.
Rhode Island was able to defeat George Washington 59-55 at home in their only match-up on the season. George Washington have been playing well as of late and certainly resembles the team we thought could win the A-10 earlier in the season before they lost 7 of 9 games in late Jan/early Feb. Rhode Island has been great at home all season and has one of the best defensives in the A-10 however, have lost 2 of their last 4 games as they continue to struggle offensively. I think Rhode Island will once against struggle with turnovers and outside shooting against a good George Washington defense and I think the Colonials offensive will do enough to win this game outright. Take George Washington and the points.
