Incarnate Word did not participate in the Southland postseason so the CIT saw their 18-10 record and gobbled them up. The Cardinals were the very definition of run and gun as the scored nearly 80 points on 47% accuracy and allowed 75 on almost 45% so outscoring opponents was the name of the game. The #285 SOS says the team did not face stiff competition although they defeated Princeton and Nebraska on the road and this wasn’t a team that was very good away from home. Denzel Livingston was the top option on the attack at 22 points and six rebounds followed Kyle Hittle and Jontrell Walker with 15 and 14 points respectively with six players doing the bulk of the scoring.
The Louisiana-Lafayette Ragin’ Cajuns had designs on winning the Sun Belt but fell short but the next best thing and their ticket to the Big Dance was taking the conference playoffs. The Ragin’ Cajuns had their chances with a seven game winning streak heading to the semifinals before a four point loss to Georgia State ended those dreams. Like their counterparts UL Lafayette runs the floor and scores at 77% accuracy while allowing 70 points but a 20-13 record on a SOS at #199 made an NCAA invitation an impossibility. Shawn Long was the top offensive option at 16 points and ten rebounds but Jay Wright, Devonta Walker and Kasey Shepherd were each 9+ point scorers so there were plenty of other options.
The Ragin' Cajuns are 3-0-1 ATS in their last 4 road games and are 6-1-1 ATS in their last 8 games overall While going 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games following a ATS win. The Ragin’ Cajuns are the better team although Incarnate Word is a decent squad that most people don’t know about. I’m hoping they know more about them after this game…
