The Kentucky Wildcats begin their pursuit for perfection as they kick off the Big Dance at 34-0. Double digit victories have been common and going 18-0 in the SEC is an impressive feat but the numbers tell us why. The Wildcats have zero problem scoring the basketball with 75 points on 47% marksmanship while opponents have averaged 54 points on 35.5% shooting which is tops in the country. Good teams or bad were hammered by UK behind an all star lineup that had numerous scorers with each being an outstanding defender. Devin Booker comes off the bench to net 10.5 points while Aaron Harrison leads the team with over eleven points. Karl-Anthony Towns, Andrew Harrison and Willie Cauley-Stein average over nine points to give the offense plenty of options.
The Hampton Pirates continued their magical run by defeating Manhattan 74-64 in a play in game Tuesday as a nine point underdog. The Pirates took an early lead and never gave it up with a seven point lead at the intermission. Hampton was solid at both ends of the floor with the Jaspers limited to only 37% accuracy while countering with 49% marksmanship with a 19-12 advantage at the charity stripe. Reginald Johnson and Quinton Chievous paced the offense with 15 points apiece with Chievous grabbing a contest 13 rebounds while Johnson posted five yanks and five helpers. Brian Darden followed with a 13 point effort while Jervon Pressley chipped in with eight points on combined 7-11 from the floor.
I don’t think trends make a difference here because Kentucky will be a huge favorite when the line comes out. The Pirates have been a great story and I have been on them every game but now they face the best team in the land as they chase history in quest of an undefeated season and the National Championship. Please check back when a line is released and expect a big one…
