The Radford Highlanders needed to shake off the disappointment of their one point loss to Winthrop that ended their Big South title hopes and did just that in a 78-57 thrashing of Delaware State in round one of the CBI. A 43-22 second half run snapped a tie game behind dominant play at both ends of the floor. The Hornets were limited to only 33% from the floor with a 6-16 mark on threes. The Highlanders sank half their looks which added up to ten more baskets while DSU was hammered on the glass 46-28. Cameron Jones gave the offense 18 points on 7-12 from the floor with Javonte Green adding 17 points and nine rebounds on 6-9 accuracy. Rashun Davis tossed in eleven points while RJ Price and Brandon Holcomb added eight points each and combined eleven boards.
The Vermont Catamounts suffered through a complete second half meltdown in a loss to Stony Brook to get the boot from the America East postseason but shook that defeat off with an 85-81 win versus Hofstra as a 5.5 point favorite. The Catamounts were red hot from the field with nearly 56% marksmanship but the Pride was still competitive on just 41% accuracy because of 14 more looks at the basket and four more three pointers. The Catamounts had five players score in double figures with a game high 17 points on 5-7 shooting from Ethan O’Day. Trae Bell-Haynes and Zach McRoberts added 13 points each with Bell-Haynes posting five helpers while Dre Wills and Drew Urquhart combined for 21 points with a contest high seven rebounds coming from Wills.
These are two teams that seldom get lined except during the postseason although the Catamounts get a few lined games during the year. The Highlanders always seem to be a challenger in the Big South and the Catamounts are always in the America East conversation. No line is out yet so please check back although I would expect Vermont to be a several point favorite…
