The Murray State Racers have been dominant in their two NIT victories that has them in the tournament quarterfinals. The Racers jumped to an early double digit lead in defeating Tulsa 83-62 in round two with an 18 point lead at the half getting the job done. The Golden Hurricane never found the shooting touch on less then 33% accuracy while the Racers 50% marksmanship and 14-25 mark on threes offset 20 turnovers and 17 more Tulsa looks. Cameron Payne gave the offense a contest high 20 points and seven helpers on 7-10 from the floor while TJ Sapp and Jeffery Moss tossed in 17 points apiece. Jarvis Williams added 15 points and five yanks with Jonathan Fairell and Wayne Langston combined for 22 rebounds.
The Old Dominion Monarchs reached the NIT quarterfinals via a 50-49 win versus Illinois State on Monday. The Monarchs were up by five at the halfway point but were never able to shake the Redbirds with neither team being able to get their offense kick started. ISU held a slight 38.8%-36% shooting advantage with six more looks at the basket and one more field goal. Both squads had opportunities at the charity stripe with Illinois State going 7-16 and ODU 5-11 so this game was won (lost) at the line. Keenan Palmore led the offense with eleven points and a contest high nine rebounds followed by a ten point, six pull effort from Jonathan Arlidge. Aaron Bacote and Javonte Douglas combined for 15 points with Douglas posting five yanks.
The Racers are 6-0-1 ATS in their last 7 non-conference games and 7-2 ATS in their last 9 road games vs. a team with a home winning % of greater than .600. Murray State are 7-2 ATS in their last 9 games vs. a team with a winning % above .600 and 7-2 ATS in their last 9 vs. Conference USA. The Monarchs are 6-1 ATS in their last 7 games after allowing less than 50 points in their previous game and 4-1 ATS in their last 5 home games vs. a team with a winning road record and 11-4 ATS in their last 15 non-conference games. Old Dominion are 5-2 ATS in their last 7 games following a S.U. win and 17-8 ATS in their last 25 home games. No line has been released so please check back but I’d be surprised if it was more then a basket.
