The Kent State Golden Flashes were one of the better squads in a fairly strong MAC but were on the outside looking in at the NCAA tournament when all was said and done. The Golden Flashes came back from a five point deficit at the half to upend Texas A&M CC 69-65 on the road in round two of the CIT. The Islanders were limited to 40% marksmanship while Kent State sank half their looks which resulted in three more baskets. Jimmy Hall carried the offense with a contest high 23 points and 13 rebounds on 11-14 from the floor with Devereaux Manley netting 17 points. Derek Jackson was next in line with 12 points and six assists with nine players scoring overall.
The Northern Arizona Lumberjacks were one of the hottest teams in the Big Sky before a two point defeat to Montana in the conference postseason to put an end to their NCAA aspirations. The Lumberjacks rallied from a three point deficit at the half to knock off conference foe Sacramento State 78-73 to advance out of the second round of the CIT. The Hornets shot the ball well enough at 46.6% but it wasn’t enough to contend with the Lumberjacks almost 55% which added up to a few more baskets. Jordyn Martin was the offensive star with a game high 27 points and six boards followed by Quinton Upshur with a 22 point performance. Gaellan Bewernick tossed in eleven points followed by Ako Kaluna with nine more points.
The Golden Flashes are 4-0 ATS in their last 4 road games vs. a team with a home winning % of greater than .600 and 5-1 ATS in their last 6 road games. Kent State are 5-1 ATS in their last 6 road games vs. a team with a winning home record and 3-1-1 ATS in their last 5 games vs. a team with a winning S.U. record. The Lumberjacks are 11-2-3 ATS in their last 16 games overall and 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games vs. a team with a winning % above .600. NAU are 12-3-2 ATS in their last 17 games vs. a team with a winning S.U. record and 3-1-2 ATS in their last 6 home games. I see both teams can be excruciating to bet because they play close games. I’ll back Kent State but I have said during the season I like NAU so I hope they win…
