The Gonzaga Bulldogs have been impressive at both ends of the floor throughout the season and although they weren’t at their best offensively in against UCLA in the Sweet 16 they had more then enough in a 74-62 victory. The Zags took a seven point lead at the break and never let the Bruins get going. UCLA sank shots at less then 39% with the Bulldogs countering with 40% but the Zags 17-23 mark from beyond the arc was decisive against the Bruins 7-11 effort. Przemek Karnowski led the attack with 18 points and nine boards on 8-11 shooting with Byron Wesley adding 14 points and six pulls. Domantas Sabonis was next in line with 12 points and eight boards followed by Kevin Pangos and Kyle Wiltjer with ten and eight points with Wiltjer grabbing ten rebounds.
The Duke Blue Devils can score the basketball as well as anyone in the country and can defend as well when they want to. The Blue Devils needed a big performance at the defensive end of the floor in their Sweet 16 battle with Utah and got it in a 63-57 victory where the Utes were limited to only 22 first half points. Overall the Utes were stymied on just 35% accuracy with a 4-16 effort on threes doing them in. The Blue Devils didn’t have a big shooting performance at 44% but they more then made up for it with a 20-11 advantage at the charity stripe easily overcoming Utah’s 15 more looks at the basket courtesy of 17 offensive rebounds. Justise Winslow gave Duke a contest high 21 points and ten boards with Tyrus Jones tossing in 15. Quinn Cooke followed with eleven points while Jahlil Okafor was held to six points and eight boards.
The Bulldogs are 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games following a S.U. win and 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games vs. a team with a winning S.U. record. Gonzaga are 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games overall and 4-1 ATS in their last 5 neutral site games. The Blue Devils are 5-0 ATS in their last 5 non-conference games and 7-1 ATS in their last 8 games vs. a team with a winning S.U. record. Duke are 7-1 ATS in their last 8 games overall and 6-1 ATS in their last 7 games following a S.U. win. I would like to see Gonzaga win this but in my eyes Duke has too much to handle and advances…
