The New Jersey Tech Highlanders clash with the Northern Arizona Lumberjacks in the CIT semis.
The Northern Arizona Lumberjacks were one of the hottest teams in the country as the regular season ended and have stayed hot in the CIT. The Lumberjacks advanced to the tournament semifinals with a 74-73 overtime victory against Kent State. Neither team shot the ball well with the Lumberjacks holding a 38%-36.8% with NAU sinking a few more baskets and free throws to negate the Golden Flashes 6-2 advantage on threes. Kris Yanku paced four double digit scorers with 19 points on 5-15 shooting followed by a 16 point, six pull effort from Aaseem Dixon. Jordyn Martin and Len Springs netted 15 and ten points and hauled in 14 rebounds each while Quinton Upshur chipped in with eight points.

The New Jersey Tech Highlanders struggled at both ends of the floor early before regrouping for a 78-73 victory versus visiting Canisius in the CIT quarterfinals. The Highlanders trailed by four at the intermission before finally taking the lead late as a 2.5 point favorite. Both teams sank shots in the 42% with the Golden Flashes shooting themselves in the foot with a 4-23 effort from distance. On the flip side New Jersey Tech connected on five more threes and four more free throws. The twosome of Tim Coleman and Damon Lynn were too much for the Golden Flashes defense with the duo pumping in 22 points apiece with Coleman hauling in eleven rebounds. Winfield Lewis followed with 14 points while Ky Howard and Daquan Holiday added eight points each with Holiday snaring six boards.
I follow both teams and Northern Arizona was my dark horse to capture the Big Sky. They didn’t but they were every bit as good as any team in the conference and one of my favorites with an offense that was capable of scoring points in bunches in short order. New Jersey Tech can shoot and score as well and allow 40% shooting in their up tempo attack so my thinking is we might see some points scored and hopefully enough by the Highlanders to cover with the Lumberjacks winning…
