The Loyola (Chicago) Ramblers took a 1-0 series lead in the CBI champion ship with a 65-58 victory against visiting Louisiana-Monroe on Monday. The Ramblers trailed at the break but came out firing to grab the lead early in the second half and never let the Warhawks come back. The Ramblers played well at both ends of the floor but were red hot from the field at 51% shooting and a perfect 7-7 from the stripe. Earl Peterson led the offense with a contest high 16 points on 5-10 from the floor while Christian Thomas added 12 points and six boards. Montel James netted eleven points and six pulls with Devon Turk tossing in ten as the starting five scored all but eight points.
The Louisiana-Monroe Warhawks held their own with Loyola (Chicago) with a two point lead on the road at the intermission but the final 20 minutes belonged to the Ramblers as ULM could not score with or get stops against the Ramblers. The Warhawks offense needed much more then 38% marksmanship to compete with better then 50% shooting from the home team which added up to five more baskets as ULM never got closer then five points late in the contest. Jamaal Samuel paced four double digit scorers with 15 points on 6-13 accuracy including a 3-6 effort from long range. Tylor Ongwae added 12 points, eleven rebounds and six helpers with Justin Roberson scoring eleven. Majok Deng and Nick Coppola rounded out the top contributors with ten and eight points with a combined eleven rebounds.
