The Evansville Purple Aces have been very impressive in the postseason and were at their best in a 79-66 victory against a dangerous Tennessee-Martin club in the CIT semifinals. The Purple Aces enjoyed some late first half scoring to open up a 46-34 lead and traded baskets the rest of the way. Evansville burned the nets at a hefty 57% to easily offset the Warhawks 43.6% marksmanship and their 13-27 performance from beyond the arc. The Purple Aces received a contest high 28 points on 10-16 from the floor including four bombs with Adam Wing netting 16 points on 8-10 shooting. Blake Simmons followed with 13 points and seven assists on 5-12 while Jaylon Moore and Jaylon Brown tossed in eight points apiece.
As I have said many times this season the Northern Arizona Lumberjacks were one of the top teams in the Big Sky despite not winning the conference crown and proved it once again in a 68-61 victory versus visiting New Jersey Tech in the semifinals of the CIT on Tuesday. The Highlanders actually held a seven points lead at the intermission and maintained that lead though the first ten minutes of the second half before the Lumberjacks turned up the intensity at both ends of the floor during a 42-28 game ending run. Neither team shot the ball well with NJIT holding a 34%-30% shooting advantage with NAU winning it with ten more free throws. Quinton Upshur poured in a contest high 23 points with Aaseem Dixon adding 19 points and eight boards. Kris Yanku added ten points followed by Len Springs with six points and 14 rebounds.
The Lumberjacks are 10-1-1 ATS in their last 12 road games vs. a team with a home winning % of greater than .600 and 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games following a S.U. win. Nau are 12-3-2 ATS in their last 17 games vs. a team with a winning S.U. record and 12-3-3 ATS in their last 18 games overall. The Purple Aces are 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games vs. a team with a winning % above .600 and 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games vs. a team with a winning S.U. record. Evansville are 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games overall and 21-8-2 ATS in their last 31 non-conference games. If NAU falls behind early they are dead meat but if they avoid a big hole they can compete…
