The Fairfield Stags will play the Yale Bulldogs in the Connecticut 6 Classic on Friday night.
The Fairfield Stags were 7-24 last season and really struggled in the MAAC. Fairfield will look to be better this season and try to get into the NCAA tournament for the first time since 1997. Senior Marcus Gilbert will lead the way for Fairfield this year after averaging 16.4 points per game last season. Fairfield beat the University of Bridgeport in an exhibition game last week 91-80. Marcus Gilbert had a team-high 28 points and 7 rebounds for the Stags. Jerome Segura and Tyler Nelson contributed for Fairfield with 19 and 18 points, respectively. Fairfield shot 55.4% from the field and 39.4% from 3-point range. Fairfield will be excited to begin another season and get last years debacle behind them.

The Yale Bulldogs were 22-10 last season and finished in a tie for first in the Ivy league standings. Yale will look to build on the success they had last season and start this year off right against Fairfield. Justin Sears led all Yale players last season with 14.3 points per game and 7.5 rebounds per game. Sears is returning for Yale and will be one of their star players this season. Javier Duren was a key player for them last year with 14 points per game and 3.9 assists per game, but he is no longer on the team. This is a huge loss for Yale and it will be very interesting to see whom steps up to fill the void left by Duren. Last season, Yale ranked in the top 50 in points allowed and will look to continue their impressive defensive performances.
Fairfield is 1-8-1 ATS in their last 10 neutral site games. Fairfield is 9-2-1 ATS in their last 12 Friday games. The under is 14-2 in Fairfield’s last 16 neutral site games. Yale is 5-0 ATS in their last 5 neutral site games. Yale is 1-4 ATS in their last 5 games against teams in the MAAC. The under is 7-1 in Yale’s last 8 neutral site games.
Yale is projected to be another top team in the Ivy League this year and even though they are missing one of their top players from last season, I expect them to come out strong against a pretty weak Fairfield team and get the victory in a comfortable fashion. I am going with Yale here.
