Colorado State had the best offense in the Mountain West last year with 72.2 points per game, while allowing 64.1 points per game. Colorado State lost their three leading scorers from last year and will have to find players to fill that big gap in scoring production. Gian Clavell is the leading scorer that is returning from last year’s team who averaged 9.2 points per game and 3.7 rebounds per game for Colorado State. Joe De Ciman and John Gillon are also returning from last year’s team and they both averaged 7.9 points per game. Colorado State is projected to finish seventh in the Mountain West this year. Colorado State is 5-2 ATS in their last 7 games against the Missouri Valley Conference. Colorado State is 5-15-1 ATS in their last 21 non-conference games. The under is 4-1-1 in Colorado State’s last 6 non-conference games. Northern Iowa is 5-2 ATS in their last 7 games against the Mountain West Conference. The over is 4-1 in Northern Iowa’s last 5 games against the Mountain West Conference.
Northern Iowa is a well-coached team that usually puts a good product out on the floor. Even though Northern Iowa lost some key pieces from last season, I expect them to be fine and compete once again in the MVC. Colorado State lost a lot of their key pieces from last season and I think this will be a bit of a down year for them. I am picking Northern Iowa in this one.
