The Wake Forest Demon Deacons will travel to the Sojka Pavilion to take on the Bucknell Bison this Sunday afternoon in College Basketball action.
The Wake Forest Demon Deacons pulled out a tight 78-73 victory over the UMBC Retrievers this past Friday to improve to 1-0 (0-0 ACC) on the season. Wake Forest struggled from beyond the arc hitting just 15.0% (3-20) of their 3-pointers compared the UMBC hitting 36.0% (9-25) 3-pointers however, did control the glass as the Demon Deacons outrebounded the Retrievers by a 59-36 margin. Wake Forest will look to improve protecting the ball as they committed 16 turnovers in the victory. Leading the way for the Demon Deacons was Devin Thomas who had a double-double with 21 points and 17 rebounds. Konstantinos Mitoglou also has a double-double with 19 points, 16 rebounds, and 3 blocks while John Collins pitched in 10 points and 7 rebounds from off the bench. 2nd year head coach Danny Manning certainly has some decent offensive talent but will continue to need to find answers on the defensive end as the Demon Deacons gave up an average of 72.1 ppg (ranked 303rd) last year and could have easily lost this game if the UMBC Retrievers didn’t shoot 48.0% (12-25) from the FT line.

The Bucknell Bison had no problem getting their first victory of the season after dismantling the D-III Shenandoah Hornets 107-61 this past Friday. The Bison used a monster 57 point first half to gain a 26 point half time lead and never looked back in this one. Bucknell couldn’t miss from the field as they ended up shooting 67.7% (42-62) from the field and 54.5% (12-22) from beyond the arc in the victory. The Bison outrebounded the Hornets by a 45-26 margin however, did commit 15 turnovers. Leading the way for Bucknell was Nana Foulland who had 20 points and 8 rebounds while Chris Hass had a solid all-around game posting 18 points, 6 rebounds, 2 assists, 3 steals, and 3 blocks. Kimbal Mackenzie, John Azzinaro, and D.J. Macleay all had double-digit points off the bench for the Bison. Bucknell has been one of the best Patriot League teams over the past few years and although they are young, they are quite talented and with Chris Hass leading the way, have a great chance of winning another Patriot League championship this season.
The Demon Deacons are 3-0-1 ATS in their last 4 non-conference games however, just 1-5 ATS in their last 6 road games. The Bison are 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games overall however, just 2-8 ATS in their last 10 home games.
This should be a tight game as although Wake Forest is from the powerful ACC conference, they’ll have all they can handle from the young Bucknell Bison who can really shot the ball. Wake Forest should have no problem controlling the paint on both sides of the court however, after seeing their defense allow UMBC to score 73 points against them, I’m not sure if they are going to have a lot of answers for the Bison offense and I think Bucknell improves to 2-0 at home against the Demon Deacons. Take Bucknell in the PK.
