The Green Bay Phoenix will travel to the Freedom Hall Civic Center to take on the East Tennessee State Buccaneers this Tuesday morning in College Basketball action.
The Green Bay Phoenix couldn’t hold on to a 10 point halftime lead and dropped to 0-1 (0-0 Horizon League) on the season after being defeated by the Stanford Cardinal, 93-89 OT, this past Friday. Green Bay was able to shoot 47.6% (10-21) from beyond the arc however, shot just 39.0% from the field. Defensively, Green Bay allowed Stanford to shoot 51.7% from the field and put the Cardinal on the FT line 42 times in the loss. Leading the way for Green Bay was Carrington Love who had 32 points, 3 rebounds, 4 assists, and 4 steals. Also chipping in was Charles Cooper who had 19 points, 6 rebounds and Kerem Hunter who had 12 points, 4 rebounds from off the bench. Green Bay lost their two top scorers from last season in Keifer Sykes and Greg Mays, Green Bay has to be happy to with their offensive production as they averaged just 68.2 ppg last season. Green Bay will need to find some answers on the defensive side as the 93 points allowed was more than any game that Phoenix allowed last season.

The East Tennessee State Buccaneers had no problems with the D-III Averett Cougars and improved to 1-0 (0-0 SOCON) after a 107-59 victory this past Saturday. East Tennessee jumped all over Averett taking a 21 point half time lead and keep the pressure on scoring 60 points in the 2nd half. The Buccaneers shot 53.8% from the field and outrebounded the Cougars by a 49-33 margin. Eastern Tennessee held Averett to 31.7% shooting from the field and forced the Cougars to commit 21 turnovers. Leading the way for Eastern Tennessee was A.J. Merriweather who had 17 points, 10 rebounds, and 5 steals. Also contributing for the Buccaneers was Ge’Lawn Guyn (19 points, 5 rebounds, 5 assists) and T.J. Cromer (19 points, 4 rebounds, 2 steals). East Tennessee was one of the higher scoring teams in the country last season scoring 73.4 ppg (ranked 41st) but had trouble on the defensive end giving up an average of 71.3 ppg (ranked 292nd). First year head coach Steve Forbes lost leading scorer Jalen Riley (20.2 ppg) and had three members transfer but also brought in the talented Ge’Lawn Guyn, a transfer from Cincinnati. East Tennessee will look like a different team from last year however, still has some players and should be at worse in the middle of the pack in the SOCON conference.
The Phoenix are 6-2 ATS in their last 8 non-conference games however just 1-5 ATS in their last 6 road games. The Buccaneers are 3-1-1 ATS in their last 5 non-conference games and 5-2 ATS in their last 7 Tuesday games.
I think Green Bay will a popular pick in this one due to their close loss against Stanford but this Green Bay team is nowhere near as good as they were last year. East Tennessee lost a lot of pieces from last year’s team but still has T.J Cromer and A.J. Merriweather that can put up points in bunches. Green Bay’s defense didn’t look great against a Stanford team that was expected to struggle offensively and I think East Tennessee will be able to get the win at home early Tuesday morning.
