The 18th ranked Notre Dame Fighting Irish (1-0, 0-0 ACC) opened their season with a convincing 87-56 against the St. Francis (PA) Red Flash this past Friday. Notre Dame shot 42.6% from the field and 34.5% (10-29) from three-point range in the victory The Fighting Irish held St. Francis (PA) to 32.7% shooting from the field and outrebounded the Red Flash by a 53-31 margin. Leading the way for Notre Dame was Demetrius Jackson who had 27 points, 8 rebounds, and 3 assists. Also chipping in for the Fighting Irish was Zach Auguste who had a double-double with 15 points and 14 rebounds. Notre Dame lost their two of their leaders from last year’s team in Jerian Grant (16.5 ppg, 3.0 rpg, 6.7 apg) and Pat Connaughton (12.5 ppg, 7.4 rpg, 1.5 apg) but still have one of the better teams in the country with the returns of Demetrius Jackson (12.4 ppg, 3.6 rpg, 3.1 apg, 1.6 spg), Zach Auguste (12.9 ppg, 6.5 rpg), and Steve Vasturia (10.1 ppg, 3.0 rpg). Notre Dame will be hoping that incoming freshman Matt Ryan will help provide some of the offense lost from the departures of Grant and Connaughton.
The Panthers are 6-1 ATS in their last 7 games overall however, just 3-7 ATS in their last 10 non-conference games. The Fighting Irish are 7-2 ATS in their last 9 games overall however are 0-3-1 ATS in their last 4 vs. the Horizon League.
Milwaukee has had a nice start of their season and should be a team that finishes in the upper half of the Horizon League this season. Notre Dame lost two of their best players but still are at top-25 team that should be make the NCAA tournament and possible do some damage. Milwaukee is an experienced team however, they’ve yet to face a team of Notre Dame’s talent this season and will be playing in its 4th game since last Friday. I think Fighting Irish will pull away in the 2nd half to this one and cover this large spread. Take Notre Dame to cover.
