The Line: Tulsa Golden Hurricane -- Over/Under: See the Latest Odds

The 9th ranked Wichita State Shockers will travel to the Reynolds Center to take on the Tulsa Golden Hurricane this Tuesday night in College Basketball action.

The Wichita State (1-0; 0-0 MVC) shocked opened up their 2014-15 season with a convincing victory over the Charleston Southern Buccaneers 88-63 this past Friday. Wichita State shot 43.9% from the field and made an impressive 31 of 41 (75.6%) from the free-throw line. The Shockers held the Buccaneers to just 37.5% from the field and outrebounded Charleston Southern by a 48-29 margin. Leading the way for the Shockers was Ron Baker who had 15 points, 4 rebounds, and 3 assists. Anton Grady, a graduate transfer from Cleveland State, pitched in with 12 points and 3 rebounds. Three members of the Wichita State bench scored in double digits in the victory. Wichita State should once again be one of the best teams in the country as they arguably have the best backcourt in the country in Rob Baker (14.7 ppg, 4.5 rpg, 2.5 apg) and Fred VanVleet (13.6 ppg, 4.5 rpg, 5.2 apg). Anton Grady and Shaquille Morris should provide the Shockers with some more size underneath and although Fred Van Fleet is a little banged up at the moment with a minor ankle sprain, he is on track to play against Tulsa.

Tulsa vs. Wichita State - 11/17/15 College Basketball Pick, Odds, and Prediction

The Tulsa Golden Hurricane kicked off their season with a high scoring 98-81 victory over the Central Arkansas Bears this past Saturday this past Saturday. Tulsa was impressive on the offensive end as they shot 58.5% from the field and 47.6% (10-21) from long range in the victory. Tulsa will look to improve on the defensive end as they allowed Central Arkansas to shoot 50.9% from the field however, they did force the Bears into committing 18 turnovers. Leading the way for the Golden Hurricane was Shaquille Harrison who had 22 points, 7 rebounds, and 4 steals. James Woodard also had a big game as guard poured in 23 points and had 4 rebounds, 4 assists, and 4 steals. Tulsa had a successful season in 2014-15 as they finished with a 23-11 (11-4 AAC) record and advanced to the 2nd round of the NIT before losing to Murray State. Tulsa returned their top three scorers from last year’s squad in James Woodard (14.5 ppg, 4.9 rpg, 1.1 apg), Shaquille Harrison (13.1 ppg, 5.1 rpg, 3.7 apg, 2.0 spg), and Rashad Smith (8.4 ppg, 6.0 rpg) and should once again be one of the better teams in the AAC and could fight for an NCAA berth.

The Shockers are 47-22-2 ATS in their last 71 games overall however, just 1-4 ATS in their last 5 non-conference games. The Golden Hurricane are 5-1 ATS in their last 6 Tuesday games however, are 0-5 ATS in their last 5 home games.

Wichita State is going to be one of the better teams in the country this season however, this matchup could be closer than what people think if Fred VanVleet isn’t able to go. Tulsa is an experienced team that has some quality scorers in Woodard and Harrison and was decent on the defensive end as they held opponents to just an average of 60.7 ppg which ranked 39th in the country last season. This game has yet to be lined as VanVleet’s status is still uncertain but if Tulsa is getting a decent amount of points, my initial thoughts is to go with Tulsa in this one.
