The San Diego Toreros will travel to University Arena (MI) to take on the Western Michigan Broncos this Tuesday night in College Basketball action.
The San Diego Toreros put up little first in their season opener and dropped to 0-1 (0-0 WC) on the season after being defeated by the USC Trojans 83-45 this past Friday. San Diego really struggled on the offensive end as they shot just 24.6% from the field and 19.4 (6-31) from beyond the arc. The Toreros allowed USC to shoot 47.8% from the field and were outrebounded by the Trojans by a 55-36 margin. Leading the way for San Diego was Duda Sanadaze who had 12 points and 5 rebounds in the loss. Also chipping in for the Toreros was Olin Carter II who had 8 points and 7 rebounds. San Diego could be in for a long season no longer have Johnny Dee (17.0 ppg, 3.5 rpg) who was the programs all-time leading scorer and Christopher Anderson (7.7 ppg, 2.9 rpg, 6.6 apg, 1.9 spg) who was the programs all-time assist and steals leader. San Diego was strong defensively last season giving up just an average of 62.9 ppg (ranked 74th) but the Toreros continue to lack size underneath and could struggle putting up points if their long-range shots aren’t falling.

The Western Michigan Broncos got out to an 11 point halftime lead but couldn’t hold and dropped to 0-1 (0-0 MAC) on the season after being defeated by the DePaul Blue Demons 69-63 this past Saturday. Western Michigan was outscored by a 45-28 margin in the 2nd half and allowed DePaul to shoot 45.7% from the field. The Broncos shot 37.0% from the field but struggled from beyond the arc as they shot just 21.4% (6-28). Leading the way for the Western Michigan was Tucker Haymond who had 24 points and 4 rebounds in the loss. Also contributing for the Broncos was Thomas Wilder who had 16 points, 5 rebounds, and 4 assists. Western Michigan lost their leading scorer from last year David Brown (15.3 ppg, 3.4 rpg, 2.1 apg, 1.3 spg) due to graduation and will have to start the season without Connar Tava (12.3 ppg, 6.2 rpg, 3.3 apg) who is currently out indefinitely with a broken foot. Western Michigan will be relying on Tucker Haymond and Thomas Wilder to provide the majority of the offensive production until Connar Tava returns.
The Toreros are 15-1 ATS in their last 16 Tuesday games however, just 2-8 ATS in their last 10 road games. The Broncos are 9-4 ATS in their last 13 games following a ATS loss however, just 3-8 ATS in their last 11 home games.
San Diego looked absolutely lost against USC without Johnny Dee and Christopher Anderson and looks as if they could be in for a very long season as their offensive might solely rely on the three-point shot. Western Michigan was dealt a major blow when Connar Tava was injured during the pre-season but still played well on the road against DePaul. Western Michigan’s defense wasn’t it strong point last season as they allowed 69.2 ppg however, I don’t think San Diego will be able to keep up offensively with the Broncos and that they win this one by double digits.
