The #6 Virginia Cavaliers look to get back in the win column against the Bradley Braves.
The Virginia Cavaliers looked formidable in their 38 point season opening win versus Morgan State and not so much in a 73-68 loss to George Washington where their trademark defense was not so stingy. The Colonials connected at 45% and held the Cavs to 40% and outshot the Cavs at the stripe 23-13. Malcolm Brogdon tried to carry the Virginia offense with a game high 28 points and eight boards on 9-18 shooting while Anthony Gill and Mike Tobay combined for 21 points and 12 rebounds. These were the only players that hit at 50% with the bench scoring just nine points.
USA TODAY Sports
The Bradley Braves opened the season with a tall order in the #10Arizona Wildcats. Too tall as the Wildcats broke free from a close game with a 51-27 second half run as 28 point favorites. Zona simply didn’t miss often at 54% while limiting the Braves to 38% while turning 35 personals in to a 35-16 advantage. While the Wildcats had five players score in double figures the Braves had one in 17 point scorer Ronnie Suggs who was 6-12 from the floor. Scottie James and Donte Thomas each scored eight points with James grabbing six boards. Ten players reached the scoring column but nothing explosive with shots not falling.
The under is 11-2 in Bradley’s last 13 non-conference games and the Braves are 2-7-1 ATS in their last 10 games overall while the under is 10-3 in their last 13 neutral site games. I know Bradley needs help this season and Virginia looked bad defensively versus George Washington so hopefully they make a statement…
