The Long Beach State 49ers and Seton Hall Pirates will face off In the Gildan Charleston Classic this Thursday night in College Basketball action.
The Long Beach State 49ers improved to 2-0 (0-0 Big West) on the season after defeating the BYU Cougars 66-65 this past Tuesday. Long Beach State struggled a bit from the floor as they shot just 31.0% from the field and 30.4% (7-23) from beyond the arc. BYU was really their own worst enemy in this one as they shot just 38.1% (8-21) from the FT line and committed 24 turnovers in the loss. Long Beach State had a balanced attack as they had four players score between 9 and 11 points and were led by Branford Jones who had 9 points, 4 rebounds, 3 assists, and 2 steals from off the bench. Also contributing for the 49ers was Roschon Prince (9 points, 7 reb) and Nick Faust (10 points, 8 reb, and 3 stl). On the season, Long Beach State has been led by Roschon Prince (12.5 ppg, 4.5 rpg), Nick Faust (12.0 ppg, 7.5 rpg) and Branford Jones (8.5 ppg, 8.5 rpg). So far on the young season, the 49ers are shooting just 39.0% from the field however, are playing well defensively as they are holding their opponents to just 35.4% shooting.

The Seton Hall Pirates jumped to a 16 point halftime lead and were able to hang on and defeat the Wagner Seahawks 69-59 this past Sunday to improve to 2-0 (0-0 Big East) on the season. Seton Hall shot 42.6% from the field and shot an impressive 85.7% (24-28) in the victory. Seton Hall struggled a bit from beyond the arc hitting just 29.4% (5-17) of their three pointers and will need to work on protecting the ball as they committed 23 turnovers against the Seahawks. Leading the way for Seton Hall was Desi Rodriguez who had 15 points, 8 rebounds, 3 assists, and 3 steals. On the season, Seton Hall has been led by Isaiah Whitehead who is averaging 18.0 ppg, 4.0 rpg, and 5.5 apg. Also contributing for the Pirates has been Angel Delgado (8.5 ppg, 9.5 rpg) and Ismael Sanogo (7.5 ppg, 9.5 rpg, 2.5 bpg). Seton Hall has started the season shooting the ball very well as they are shooting 52.1% from the field, however, they will start to run into trouble against better teams if they continue to average 22 turnovers a game.
The 49ers are 6-2 ATS in their last 8 non-conference games, however, just 1-5 ATS in their last 6 vs. the Big East. The Pirates are 5-1 ATS in their last 6 Thursday games and 16-5 ATS in their last 21 non-conference games.
Long Beach State lost all of their starters from their 2014-15 squad but still should be one of the better teams in the Big West as they got three key transfers in Nick Fause (Maryland), Roschon Prince (USC), and Gabe Levin (Loyola Marymount) that have all been a major part of their first two wins. Seton Hall didn’t close out their game against Wagner the way I would expect a team with this talent to do, however, the Pirates are looking more of a team this year and certainly have the ability with Isaiah Whitehead to make the NCAA Tournament. I think this is going to be a close game but Seton Hall is the more talented team and I think they’ll cover this small spread late.
