Troy shot an impressive 55.9% from the field in the victory but did struggle from three-point range as they shout just 20.0% (3-15). The Trojans held the Eagles to just 32.4% (12-37) from beyond the arc and outrebounded Reinhardt by a 47-36 margin. Leading the way for Troy was Jordon Varnado who had a double-double with 26 points and 10 rebounds. Jordon Varnado (23.5 ppg, 10.5 rpg, 1.5 bpg) and Wesley Person (18.0 ppg, 4.0 rpg, 3.0 apg) have done the major damage for Troy early this season while Jeremy Hollimon (12.0 ppg, 5.0 rpg, 3.0 apg, 2.0 spg) has also played well. Offensively, Troy has been solid from the field shooting 47.9% however, have made just an average of 3.5 three-pointers per game. The Blazers are 13-3 ATS in their last 16 games vs. a team with a winning S.U. record however, just 1-6 ATS in their last 7 non-conference games. The Trojans are 3-1-1 ATS in their last 5 non-conference games however, just 1-3-1 ATS in their last 5 games overall.
UAB had a tough loss in their opener but bounced back nicely against a decent Alabama State team and should be the favorite to win C-USA this season. Troy has a great player in the 2015 Sun Belt Player of the Year in Wesley Person and although they are getting some good production from Jordon Varnado in their first two games, this team really doesn’t have many other weapons. UAB is the far better team in this one and I think they’ll hand Troy their first lost and cover this mid-range spread. Take UAB to cover.
