The Virginia Cavaliers and Long Beach State 49ers square off Friday night at the TD Arena.
The Virginia Cavaliers improved to 2-1 on the season with a Thursday 82-57 win over Bradley. In the victory, Virginia shot 56.6 percent from the field and turned the ball over only nine times. Anthony Gill led the Cavs with 16 points and seven rebounds while London Perrantes had 12 points and eight assists. The Virginia Cavaliers looked a lot like the team we expected to see before the season and did a nice job of rebounding from their Monday loss to George Washington. Virginia gets timely offense but will continue to rely heavily on its defense that’s allowed 67 or less points in 15 of its last 17 points. Virginia has to use this tournament as a confidence boost heading into its December 1 road matchup against Ohio State.

The Long Beach State 49ers improve to 3-0 with a 80-77 victory over Seton Hall. In the victory, LBSU shot 55.4 percent from the field and had 16 turnovers. Nick Faust led the 49ers with 16 points and four rebounds while Travis Hammonds had 14 points and two assists off the bench. The Long Beach State 49ers have won their last two games despite being underdogs and are relying on their fast paced offense that’s produced 232 points in three games. Long Beach State pushes the tempo with the best of them and can get extremely hot from anywhere on the court. However, in order to pull off a third straight upset, the 49ers must take better care of the basketball. Either way, LBSU has won six of its last seven games.
The 49ers are 7-2 ATS in their last 9 non-conference games and 2-5 ATS in their last 7 games following a ATS win. The Cavaliers are 0-4 ATS in their last 4 games following a S.U. win and 1-4 ATS in their last 5 games overall.
I'm really liking what I see from Long Beach State, as this team can flat out score and put pressure on the defense. Cavs win, but I think the 49ers can keep it close.
