The Miami Hurricanes and Utah Utes meet Friday night at the Roberto Clemente Coliseum.
The Miami Hurricanes improved to 3-0 on the season with a Thursday 105-79 victory over Mississippi State. In the victory, Miami shot 56.7 percent from the field and forced 13 turnovers. Sheldon McClellan led the Canes with 18 points and four assists while Ja'Quan Newton had 15 points and five assists off the bench. The Miami Hurricanes continue to show that they are a serious threat in the ACC this season with a loaded backcourt and a roster full of guys who can shoot the rock. In fact, Miami has made 21 threes in its last two games and has scored no less than 86 points in each of its first three games. The Miami Hurricanes also have strong fan support in Puerto Rico, especially with it being a homecoming for senior guard Angel Rodriguez.

The Utah Utes improved to 3-0 with a 73-63 Thursday victory over Texas Tech. In the win, Utah shot 38.3 percent from the field and shot 27 free throws. Lorenzo Bonam led the Utes with 20 points and seven rebounds while Jordan Loveridge had 18 points and five rebounds. The Utah Utes clearly didn’t play their best basketball, but 63 points is the fewest they’ve allowed so far this season. Utah is a balanced team that can win multiple ways as we just saw. Before Thursday’s game, Utah was dropping 80-plus points and shooting 32.1 percent from beyond the arc. However, while Utah is the ranked team, the Utes must play better if they plan to win here. The Utah Utes have now won 12 of their last 16 regular season games.
The Hurricanes are 6-0 ATS in their last 6 games following a S.U. win and 6-0 ATS in their last 6 non-conference games. The Utes are 6-2 ATS in their last 8 neutral site games and 68-32-4 ATS in their last 104 games overall.
Miami is simply the better team and has the crowd advantage here. The guard play of the Canes will be the difference in result in a Miami victory and cover.
