The Oakland Golden Grizzlies (1-0; 0-0 Horizon) had a good start to their 2015-16 season after they were able to defeat the Eastern Michigan Eagles 91-81 this past Wednesday. Leading the way for Oakland was Kahlil Felder who had a double-double with 27 points, 12 assists, and 2 steals. Also contributing for the Golden Grizzlies was Percy Gibson who had a double-double with 25 points, 10 rebounds, 2 blocks and Sherron Dorsey-Walker who a double-double with 19 points & 10 rebounds form off the bench. Oakland lost one of their best players from last year’s team in Corey Petros (14.3, 8.2 rpg, 2.0 apg) however, have the pre-season Horizon League Player of the year in Kahlil Felder. Although the loss of Petros will hurt, the Golden Grizzlies will be one of the teams in the Horizon that could challenge Valparaiso with Kahlil Felder, Iowa State transfer Percy Gibson, and Horizon All-Freshman team member Jalen Hayes.

The Colorado State Rams were able to follow-up their impressive road victory of the Northern Iowa Panthers and defeat the Loyola Marymount Lions 83-75 to improve to 2-0 (0-0 MW) on the young season. Colorado State allowed Loyola Marymount to take the lead at halftime but took a 46-43 lead early in the 2nd half and never trailed in the game again. Colorado State shot 42.9% from the field and 50.0% (9-18) from three-point range in the victory. The Rams allowed the Lions to shoot 46.6% from the field however, did outrebound Loyola Marymount by a 40-27 margin. Leading the way for the Rams was Gian Clavell who had 21 points, 5 rebounds, and 6 assists. On the season, Colorado State has been led by Gian Clavell (18.5 ppg, 6.0 rpg, 5.0 apg), Joe De Ciman (15.5 ppg, 6.5 rpg, 2.0 spg), and Emmanuel Omogbo (15.0 ppg, 8.0 rpg). Offensively, Colorado State is shooting 46.8% through its first two games while averaging 16.0 apg. Defensively, the Rams are allowing their opponents to shoot 46.2% from the field and have a 6.5 rebound margin.
The Golden Grizzlies are 12-3-1 ATS in their last 16 games following a S.U. win and 7-2 ATS in their last 9 games following an ATS win. The Rams are 5-2 ATS in their last 7 games following a ATS loss however just 13-29-1 ATS in their last 43games following a S.U. win.
Colorado State’s victory against Northern Iowa on the road looks even more impressive after Northern Iowa was able to beat the #1 ranked North Carolina Tar Heels, however, the Rams did have their hands full with a Loyola Marymount team that many expects picked to finish last in the WCC this season. Oakland has a solid victory against Eagles and has to be encouraged with the performances of Percy Gibson and Sherron Dorsey-Walker. Colorado State lost their three top scorers from last year’s squad and although they still seem to be better than expected this season, Oakland has one of the best point guards in the country in Kahlil Felder and should be able to win this one with the points. Take Oakland and the points.
