The Santa Clara Broncos go on the road to oppose Big West foe the UC Irvine Anteaters.
The Santa Clara Broncos have been a bit all over the map in the early going but the bottom line is the team is off to an 0-4 start. The Broncos couldn’t get their scoring and defense on the same page in a 77-63 loss to UC Riverside Thursday with the Highlanders strong second half carrying the day. UCR held a slight 45%-42.6% shooting edge but nailed nine more long balls which was the difference maker. The Broncos attack was really a two man show with Nate Kratch pouring in a game high 22 points and hauling in nine rebounds while Jared Brownridge scored 18 points, grabbed seven boards and handed out six helpers with no other player scoring more then six points.

The UC Irvine Anteaters are supposed to be the team to watch in the Big West and they are off to a solid 3-0 start. The Anteaters did have some good fortune in a 61-50, overtime victory at Central Florida on Thursday as a five point favorite. This probably shouldn’t have been as close with UCI forcing 17 Knights turnovers but they didn’t take advantage with less then 35% shooting. By the same token Central Florida owned a +16 on the backboards to make their 34.4% from the floor be competitive. Luke Nelson led all scorers with 22 points and six helpers on 9-21 from the field while Alex Young and Mike Best tossed in ten points each with Best snagging eight rebounds.
Santa Clara are 6-20 ATS in their last 26 vs. Big West and the under is 6-2 in their last 8 non-conference games. The under is 20-5-1 in UC Irvine’s last 26 home games and is 42-12-1 in their last 55 overall while going 19-7 in their last 26 non-conference games. A lot of hype with the Anteaters and we’ll see if it’s warranted…
