The Akron Zips will travel to the Resch Center to take on the Green Bay Phoenix this Tuesday night in College Basketball action.
The Akron Zips suffered their first loss of the season, losing to the 11th ranked Villanova Wildcats 75-56 this past Sunday, to drop to 3-1 (0-0 MAC) on the season. Akron had a six point lead late in the first half but allowed Villanova to go on 23-8 run between the 1st and 2nd halves and couldn’t make a late comeback. Akron struggled offensively in the game shooting just 35.6% from the field and 30.0% (3-10) from the FT line. The Zips allowed the Wildcats to shoot 40.3% from the field and lost the turnover battle by a 16-7 margin. On the season, Akron has been led by Antonio Jackson (13.5 ppg, 4.8 apg, 1.5 spg), Reggie McAdams (12.0 ppg, 4.3 rpg), and Pat Forsythe (7.5 ppg, 7.5 rpg, 1.5 bpg). Offensively, Akron is shooting 44.9% from the field on the year however, needs to do a better job protecting the ball as they have a -3.8 turnover margin. Defensively, the Zips have been outstanding holding opponents to just 31.5% shooting from the field and currently have a 7.3 rebound margin.

The Green Bay Phoenix picked up their first win of the season defeating the D-II Minnesota-Duluth Bulldogs, 97-74, this past Sunday to improve to 1-3 (0-0 Horizon) on the season. It was a battle in the first half as Green Bay was actually trailing by one at halftime however, the Phoenix found their offense in the 2nd half outscoring the Bulldogs by a 56-35 margin to secure the victory. Green Bay shot 44.6% from the field and went to FT line 42 times in which they shot 69.0% (29-42). The Phoenix had its troubles on the boards as they were outrebound by Minnesota-Duluth by a 54-35 margin however, did force the Bulldogs to commit 26 turnovers. Leading the way for the Green Bay was Carrington Love who had 22 points, 2 rebounds, 3 assists, and 5 steals. On the season, the Phoenix have been led by Carrington Love (27.0 ppg, 2.5 rpg, 2.5 apg, 3.0 spg), Kenneth Love (13.5 ppg, 5.5 rpg), and Jordan Fouse (8.5 ppg, 12.0 rpg, 5.0 apg, 3.5 spg). Offensively, Green Bay is shooting 41.3% from the field on the season and has a solid turnover margin of 6.5. Defensively, the Phoenix have really struggled as they are allowing their opponents so far in the season to average 94.3 ppg on 50.2% shooting.
The Zips are 4-0 ATS in their last 4 games following a S.U. loss and 4-0 ATS in their last 4 vs. the Horizon League. The Phoenix are 9-4 ATS in their last 13 home games however, just 1-4 ATS in their last 5 games overall.
Akron has had a nice start to their season as although they weren’t able to pull off the upset on the road against Villanova, they did pick up a very nice road win in their victory against Arkansas. Green Bay has had a rough start to their season and seems to have lost their defensive identity that made them such a solid team over the past couple of years. Green Bay is currently allowing opponents to shoot over 50% against them and as Akron can certainly light it up beyond the arc, I think this spells trouble for the Phoenix. I think Akron will be able to win this one by at least 10 and have no trouble covering this small spread. Take the Zips to cover.
