The Drake Bulldogs improved to 3-3 (0-0 MVC) on the season after defeating the Pepperdine Waves, 69-53, this past Wednesday. Drake used an early 11-4 run in the 2nd half to get a double-digit lead against the Waves and never looked back in the victory. Drake shot 55.6% from the field and 58.3% (7-12) from beyond the arc in the win. The Bulldogs held Pepperdine to 38.5% from the field and out rebounded the Waves by a 35-25 margin. Leading the way for Drake was Reed Timmer who had 21 points, 3 rebounds, and 5 assists. On the season, the Bulldogs have been led by Kale Abrahamson (18.5 ppg, 3.7 rpg), Reed Timmer (17.8 ppg, 3.7 rpg, 3.3 apg), and Graham Woodward (14.2 ppg, 2.5 apg). Offensively, Drake is averaging 75.3 ppg on 49.4% shooting. The Bulldogs average 7.7 three-pointers per game on 43.4% shooting from beyond the arc. Defensively, Drake is allowing their opponents to average 69.3 ppg on 42.2% shooting. The Bulldogs have a rebound margin of 2.0 and a turnover margin of -2.8.
The Flames are 6-1 ATS in their last 7 games following a S.U. win however, just 2-11 ATS in their last 13 non-conference games. The Bulldogs are 1-3-1 ATS in their last 5 games following a ATS win and just 2-7-1 ATS in their last 10 non-conference games.
UIC is still finding their way early in the season under new head coach, Steve McClain, and has gotten some solid contributions from Paris Burns and Tai Odiase. Drake is also looking to improve this season after going 9-22 last season, but do have a great player in Reed Timmer who made the MVC All-Freshman team last season. Drake certainly has an advantage in this one being at home however, I think UIC has the guard play to get out and defend the long-range ball of the Bulldogs and if they can accomplish this, I think the Flames and cover in this one. Take UIC to cover.
