The Rider Broncs will travel to the Thomas M. Ryan Center to take on the Rhode Island Rams this Sunday afternoon in College Basketball action.
The Rider Broncs picked up their first win of the season last Wednesday with a 67-56 victory over the Houston Baptist Huskies to improve to 1-4 (0-0 MACC) on the season. Rider used a big 16-2 run in the 1st half to take a 36-22 lead at halftime and never allowed Houston Baptist to reach within single digits in the 2nd half. Rider shot 40.0% from the field and 28.6% (6-21) from beyond the arc in the victory. The Broncs allowed the Huskies to shoot 39.6% from the field and outrebounded Houston Baptist by a 42-35 margin. Leading the way for Rider was Teddy Okereafor who had 16 points, 3 rebounds, 3 assists, and 2 steals. On the season, Rider has been led by Xavier Lundy (11.0 ppg, 3.0 rpg), Jimmie Taylor (8.6 ppg, 4.2 rpg), and Teddy Okereafor (8.0 ppg, 3.2 rpg, 4.2 apg). Offensively, Rider is averaging 58.6 ppg on 43.1% shooting. The Broncs average 12.6 apg and average just 4.2 three-pointers per game. Defensively, Rider is holding opponents to an average of 63.0 ppg on 42.8% shooting. The Broncs average 7.2 spg and have a rebound margin of -1.0.

The Rhode Island Rams had their two game winning streak snapped and dropped to 3-2 (0-0 A-10) on the season after being defeated by 3rd ranked Maryland Terrapins, 86-63, this past Wednesday. Maryland got of the gates quickly in this one taking a 44-28 lead by halftime and Rhode Island couldn’t make any sort of run in the 2nd half in the loss. Rhode Island shot just 33.9% from the field and 13.3% (2-15) from beyond the arc. The Rams allowed Maryland to shoot 60.0% from the field and 58.8% (10-17) from three-point range. Leading the way for the Rams was Jarvis Garrett who had 13 points, 6 rebounds, and 4 assists. On the season, Rhode Island has been led by Kuran Iverson (11.6 ppg, 5.0 rpg, 1.2 apg), Four McGlynn (11.6 ppg, 1.2 spg), and Hassan Martin (11.0 ppg, 5.6 rpg, 2.4 bpg). Offensively, Rhode Island is averaging 64.4 ppg on 44.4% shooting. The Rams average just 9.8 apg and have an assist/turnover ratio of 0.65. Defensively, Rhode Island is holding their opponents to an average of 58.2 ppg on 40.4% shooting. The Rams average 7.6 spg and have a rebound margin of 0.6.
The Broncs are 5-0 ATS in their last 5 Sunday games and 10-3 ATS in their last 13 road games. The Rams are 4-0 ATS in their last 4 home games vs. a team with a losing road record and 11-1 ATS in their last 12 games following a S.U. loss.
Rider might be just 1-4 but they were competitive in each of those losses which included a 65-58 to Maryland in which they held the lead the majority of the game. Rhode Island suffered a huge blow after losing their leader, E.C. Matthews, for the season after the first game. Rider has some talented players and should contend in the MAAC, however, I think Rhode Island will be fired up for this one after how the Maryland game ended and should be able to handle the Broncs. Rhode Island will use its solid defense to defend its home court and score enough to cover this spread. Take Rhode Island to cover.
