The Long Beach State 49ers lost their 3rd consecutive game and dropped to 3-3 (0-0 Big West) on the season after being defeated by the Oklahoma State Cowboys, 79-73, this past Friday. Long Beach State got out to a quick lead in this one but found themselves down 44-37 at halftime and couldn’t ever get the lead in the 2nd half. Long Beach State shot 41.3% from the field and 45.5% (10-22) form three-point range. The 49ers allowed the Cowboys to shoot 52.7% from the field and was outrebound by Oklahoma State by a 40-34 margin. Leading the way for Long Beach State was A.J. Spencer who had 16 points, 6 rebounds, and 3 assists. On the season, the 49ers have been led by Nick Faust (13.8 ppg, 4.8 rpg, 1.7 spg), Travis Hammons (10.8 ppg, 4.0 rpg), and Roschon Prince (10.2 ppg, 3.7 rpg). Defensively, Long Beach State is allowing 74.5 ppg on 45.8% shooting. The 49ers are allowing opponents to shot 35.7% from three-point range and are allowing 35.8 rpg.
The Aztecs are 4-0 ATS in their last 4 games following an ATS loss however, just 0-3-1 ATS in their last 4 road games. The 49ers are 4-1 ATS in their last 5 vs. MW however, just 2-6 ATS in their last 8 games following an ATS win.
San Diego State is once against one of the better defensive teams in the country however, they can really struggle putting up points on the board. Long Beach state lost all five it’s starters from last year’s team however, still will be near the top of the Big West conference as they have transfers Nick Faust (Maryland) and Gabe Levin (Loyola Marymount). Long Beach State can always be trusted to bring their defensive which should cause Long Beach State some trouble and as the 49ers are no where near the defensive team that West Virginia is, I think the Aztecs will be able to score enough to cover this spread. Take San Diego State to cover.
