The Siena Saints had their 4-game winning streak snapped and dripped to 4-3 (0-0 MACC) on the season after being defeated by the Cornell Big Red, 81-80, this past Tuesday. Siena allowed Cornell’s Robert Hatter to score 28 of his 32 points in the 2nd half and couldn’t hang on to a ten point lead late in the game. Siena shot 48.3% from the field and 50.0% (8-16) from beyond the arc in the loss. The Saints allowed the Big Red to shoot 42.6% from the field and committed 15 turnovers in the game. Leading the way for Siena was Brett Bisping who had a double-double with 16 points and 18 rebounds. On the season, the Saints have been led by Marquis Wright (18.1 ppg, 4.9 rpg, 4.3 apg, 2.3 spg), Brett Bisping (13.7 ppg, 9.4 rpg, 1.4 apg), and Javion Ogunyemi (12.7 ppg, 6.3 rpg, 1.7 bpg). Offensively, Siena is averaging 78.0 ppg on 47.4% shooting from the field. The Saints average 6.1 three-pointers per game and have an assist/turnover ratio of 0.83. Defensively, Siena is allowing their opponents to average 78.4 ppg on 44.9% shooting. The Saints have a rebound margin of 3.7 and a turnover margin of -3.0.
The Jaspers are 6-1 ATS in their last 7 vs. the MAAC and 8-3-1 ATS in their last 12 games following a ATS loss. The Saints are 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games vs. a team with a winning % below .400 however, are 2-5 ATS in their last 7 games vs. a team with a losing straight up record.
Manhattan has had a rough start to the season as the Jaspers are really struggling on both sides of the floor currently and have been getting absolutely owned on the boards. Siena has had a couple of tough games against Duke and Wisconsin to start their season but have played well and should be one of the top contenders in the MACC this season. Manhattan is a better team than what they’ve shown early this season and although the Saints have played well, I just don’t think they should be almost double-digit favorites against the Jaspers. I think Manhattan will be able to force Siena into making some turnovers and will be able to keep this one close enough to cover with the points. Take Manhattan and the points.
