The Buffalo Bulls will travel to Hilton Coliseum to take on the 5th ranked Iowa State Cyclones this Monday night in College Basketball action.
The Buffalo Bulls lost their 2nd straight game and dropped to 4-4 (0-0 MAC East) on the season after being defeated by the 7th ranked Duke Blue Devils, 82-59, this past Saturday. Duke outscored Buffalo by a 48-35 margin in the 2nd half for the convincing victory. Buffalo shot just 21.7% (5-23) from beyond the arc and committed 14 turnovers in the loss. The Bulls allowed Duke to shoot 40.7% from the field and 35.7% (5-14) from three-point range. Leading the way for Buffalo was CJ Massinburg who had 17 points and 4 rebounds from off the bench. On the season, the Bills have been led by Lamonte Bearden (13.1 ppg, 2.8 apg, 1.5 spg), Rodell Wigginton (11.3 ppg, 7.0 rpg), and Blake Hamilton (11.0 ppg, 5.5 rpg). Offensively, Buffalo is averaging 76.5 ppg on 40.4% shooting. The Bulls average 6.4 three-pointers per game and have an assist/turnover ratio of 0.94. Defensively, Buffalo is allowing their opponents to average 74.0 ppg on 42.7% shooting. The Bulls have a rebound margin of 1.4 and a turnover margin of 2.6.

The 5th ranked Iowa State Cyclones remained perfect on the season and improved to 6-0 (0-0 Big 12) on the year after defeating the North Dakota State Bison, 84-64, this past Tuesday. North Dakota State hung around for a while against Iowa State, but the Cyclones used a 13-2 run midway through the 2nd half to help get the win. Iowa State shot 50.0% from the field however, shot just 25.9% (7-27) from beyond the arc. The Cyclones held the Bison to 36.1% shooting from the field and outrebounded North Dakota State by a 42-36 margin. Leading the way for Iowa State was Jameel McKay who had a double-double with 15 points, 19 rebounds, and 3 blocks. On the season, the Cyclones have been led by Georges Niang (16.5 ppg, 5.7 rpg, 3.5 apg), Monte Morris (15.3 ppg, 4.2 rpg, 6.8 apg, 2.0 spg), and Jameel McKay (14.0 ppg, 11.8 rpg, 1.5 bpg). Offensively, Iowa State is averaging 87.3 ppg on 51.8% shooting. The Cyclones are shooting 36.5% from three-point range and have an assist/turnover ratio of 1.61. Defensively, Iowa State is holding their opponents to an average of 67.2 ppg on 38.8% shooting. The Cyclones have a rebound margin of 6.7 and a turnover margin of 2.7.
Buffalo had a tough offseason as after losing head coach Bobby Hurley and their 2nd leading scorer in Shannon Evans to Arizona State, the Bulls lost their best player in Justin Moss who was dismissed from the school after an off-campus legal issue. Iowa State has one of the best teams in the country and arguably the best starting five in the country led by Georges Niang and Monte Morris. Buffalo is having trouble on the defensive end and without Moss, I feel that Jameel McKay is going to have another big game in this one. The Bulls lost by 20+ against a good Duke team but things don’t get any easier playing a rested Iowa State team at home. I think the Cyclones win this one by at least 20 and cover this spread. Take Iowa State to cover.
