Kent State vs. Louisiana-Monroe - 12/10/15 College Basketball Pick, Odds, and Prediction

USA TODAY Sports

The Kent State Golden Flashes improved to 5-2 (0-0 MAC East) on the season after defeating the NJIT Highlanders, 80-75, this past Monday. Kent State shot 41.8% from the field and 40.0% (12-30) from beyond the arc in the victory. The Golden Flashes were outrebounded by the Highlanders by a 45-34 margin but committed just 6 turnovers. Kent State held NJIT to just 29.6% (8-27) from beyond the arc and forced the Highlanders to commit 13 turnovers. Leading the way for Kent State was Kellon Thomas who had 22 points, 2 rebounds, 6 assists, and 3 steals. On the season, the Golden Flashes have been led by Jimmy Hall (16.6 ppg, 8.0 rpg, 3.4 apg), Kellon Thomas (13.0 ppg, 2.3 rpg, 2.6 apg), and Xavier Pollard (11.9 ppg, 3.6 rpg, 2.6 apg). Offensively, Kent State is averaging 75.4 ppg on 44.0% shooting from the field and 31.1% from beyond the arc. The Golden Flashes average 6.0 three pointers per game and have an assist/turnover of 1.49. Defensively, Kent State is allowing their opponents to average 70.9 ppg on 45.6% shooting. The Golden Flashes have a rebound margin of 6.4 and a turnover margin of 2.1.

The Warhawks are 5-1 ATS in their last 6 games following a ATS win however, just 1-4 ATS in their last 5 non-conference games. The Golden Flashes are 4-1-1 ATS in their last 6 games vs. a team with a winning straight up record however, just 8-20-1 ATS in their last 29 home games.

Kent State has had a good start with the season and have one of the better front-courts in the MAC led by Jimmy Hall, Chris Ortiz, and Khaliq Spicer. Louisiana Monroe had a big win over the Sun-Belt favorite, Louisiana Lafayette, and once again looks as if they have one of the better defenses in the country as they are holding opponents to just 62 ppg. Kent State has been solid at home this season but I think Louisiana Monroe has been more impressive and as I believe the Warhawks defense will keep this one close, I’m taking Louisiana Monroe and the points in this one.
