The Montana State Bobcats and the San Jose State Spartans square off for the second time.
The Montana State Bobcats have proven they can score the basketball but opponents have had no problems doing the same. Both trends continued in a 100-97 at Nebraska Omaha. Neither team played defense with both sinking shots at a torrid 52% pace. The Bobcats nailed 15-31 long balls but the Mavericks forced 16 turnovers and added a few more baskets and eight more free throws to squeeze out the win. Marcus Colbert turned in a 32 point, five pull, five assist effort on 11-16 from the floor. Stephan Holm tossed in 21 points on 8-10 including five long balls. Tyler hall was next in line with 17 points and seven rebounds while four others added between 5-8 points.

The San Jose State Spartans are definitely an improved squad but improved enough to compete in the Mountain West? The Spartans have not been accustomed to winning so a 4-5 record is a nice start. SJSU received a reality check in an 80-62 loss at Marquette that was never in doubt. The Golden Eagles didn’t set the world on fire at around 40% but the Spartans hit at 37% and gave the ball away 17 times. Princeton Onwas was San Jose State’s top scorer with 15 points and seven boards but he was only 5-15 from the floor and committed eight turnovers. Gary Williams Jr. and Brandon Clarke netted ten points apiece but more was needed from the rest of the team.
The over is 7-1 in Montana State’s last 8 road games. San Jose State are 15-37-2 ATS in their last 54 home games and the under is 9-4 in their last 13 Sunday games. In the last nine games that have been lined between these teams the over has hit in eight. I might take a look at that or go small on the Spartans…
