The Evansville Purple Aces won their 4th straight game and improved to 11-2 (0-0 MVC) on the season after defeating the Alabama A&M Bulldogs, 91-70, on December 22nd. Evansville had little trouble with Alabama A&M as they raced out to a 20-point halftime lead and never let the Bulldogs get within 20-points of the lead in the 2nd half. Evansville was outstanding offensively as they shot 66.7% from the field, 50.0% (4-8) from beyond the arc, and 79.2% (19-24) from the FT line. The Purple Aces held the Bulldogs to 23.5% (4-17) shooting form beyond the arc and outrebounded Alabama A&M by a 37-25 margin. Leading the way for Evansville was Egidijus Mockevicius who had a double-double with 19 points, 18 rebounds, and 3 blocks. On the season, the Purple Aces have been led by D.J. Balentine (21.7 ppg, 3.1 rpg, 5.0 apg), Egidijus Mockevicius (18.0 ppg, 13.8 rpg, 2.8 bpg), and Jaylon Brown (10.8 ppg, 3.5 apg). The Sycamores are 6-0-1 ATS in their last 7 games vs. a team with a winning straight up record and 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games overall. The Purple Aces are 3-1-1 ATS in their last 5 games overall and 3-7 ATS in their last 10 vs. MVC opponents.
Indiana State played a tough non-conference schedule that included games against Tulsa and Butler but has recovered nicely with a three game winning streak in which the Sycamores defense held their opponents to just 63.0 ppg. Evansville has had a great start to their season and are led by two of the better players in the MVC in Egidijus Mockevicius and D.J. Balentine. Indiana State will need to bring their defense for them to have a chance in this one however, I think Evansville should challenge for the MVC this season and will open up conference play with a double-digit victory at home. Take Evansville to cover.
