The Seton Hall Pirates was able to following up their big win against Wichita State to defeat the South Florida Bulls, 66-49, on December 22nd to improve to 10-2 (0-0 Big East) on the season. Seton Hall used a strong defensive first half to take a 33-19 halftime lead and never let the Bulls get within single-digits in the 2nd half. Seton Hall shot 41.9% from the field and won the turnover battle by a 15-8 margin. The Pirates held the Bulls to 34.0% shooting from the field and 20.0% shooting from beyond the arc. USA TODAY Sports

The Marquette Golden Eagles won their 9th straight game and improved to 10-2 (0-0 Big East) on the season after defeating the Presbyterian College Blue Hose, 84-66, this past Sunday. Despite struggling from the field in the 1st half, Marquette had a 38-29 lead at halftime and had little trouble taking care of business against the Blue Hose in the 2nd half. Marquette shot 41.1% from the field and 31.8% (7-22) from beyond the arc in the victory. The Golden Eagles outrebounded the Blue Hose by a 53-42 margin and had 11 blocks as a team. Leading the way for Marquette was Henry Ellenson who had a double-double with 17 points, 15 rebounds, 3 assists, 4 blocks, and 2 steals. On the season, the Golden Eagles have been led by Henry Ellenson (16.8 ppg, 9.8 rpg, 2.6 apg, 1.3 bpg), Luke Fischer (14.5 ppg, 8.3 rpg, 2.2 bpg), and Duane Wilson (12.6 ppg, 3.2 rpg, 3.2 apg, 1.3 spg). Offensively, Marquette is averaging 80.5 ppg on 47.4% shooting from the field and 35.0% shooting from beyond the arc. The Golden Eagles average 7.1 three-pointers per game and have an assist/turnover ratio of 1.28. Defensively, Marquette is holding their opponents to an average of 69.2 ppg on 38.7% shooting. The Golden Eagles have a rebound margin of 4.2 and average 5.3 blocks per game.

The Pirates are 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games overall however, just 1-4-1 ATS in their last 6 games vs. Big East opponents. The Golden Eagles are 8-17 ATS in their last 25 games overall and 12-30-1 ATS in their last 43 vs. Big East opponents.

For the 2nd straight season, Seton Hall has gotten off to a fast start and will be looking to ride their improved defense to start conference play with a win. Marquette has one of the best frontcourts in the country led by Henry Ellenson and Luke Fischer and a solid defense holding teams to under 40% shooting from the field. Seton Hall has some talent however, I think the Pirates will struggle against Ellenson and Fischer on the road and that Marquette gets a 5-10 point victory in this one. Take Marquette to cover.
