The Wofford Terriers are picked as a contender in the SoCon but if you follow this conference then you know this isn’t nearly the same squad from the last few years. The Terriers did open conference play with an 87-76 win versus visiting North Carolina-Greensboro but it took a 51-40 second half run to win and end a five game slide. The Terriers allowed 52.5% shooting but countered with 50% accuracy including an 11-23 mark on threes and 17 more makes at the stripe to pull this one out. Spencer Collins poured in a game high 25 points with Eric Garcia tossing in 17 with the duo going 12-20 from the field. Justin Gordon and Fletcher Magee added 12and ten points but where was the defense?
I don’t think we’ll know enough about the VMI Keydets until conference play is well underway when similar competition is faced. The Keydets are coming off of an 85-57 defeat at Furman in their conference opener Saturday as a 6.5 point underdog. VMI had a rough go of it as they fell behind by 15 after 20 minutes and never recovered. The Offense mustered 38.8% shooting and gave the ball away 19 times to the 48% shooting Paladins who had advantages throughout the boxscore. Julian Eleby was the top option for the Keydets offense with 18 points and six boards on 6-8 shooting with Adrian Rich and QJ Peterson combining for 19 points butVMI came up short on both ends of the floor.
The over is 8-1 in Wofford last 9 vs. Southern and Wofford are 7-2 ATS in their last 9 vs. Southern while the Terriers are 11-5 ATS in their last 16 Tuesday games. Wofford has not been very impressive but if they are truly a challenger in the SoCon they need to win this type of game…
