The #12 Xavier Musketeers look for a road win versus the St John’s Red Storm Wednesday.
The Xavier Musketeers can score and defend as well as any team in the country which is reason number one that they are 13-1 and threatening the top ten. The Musketeers bounced back from their first loss at Villanova to trounce Butler 88-69 as five point favorites. The Bulldogs fell behind by ten after 20 minutes and could not make a comeback on 38.7% shooting. On the flip side the Musketeers blasted away at over 54% including a 10-21 mark from long range. Remy Abell gave Xavier a game high 21 points with Jalen Reynolds and Trevon Bluiett scoring 13 points each and snagging 13 rebounds. Myles Davis and Kaiser Gates combined for 21 points as points were flowing everywhere.

Chris Mullin is going to take a few bumps and bruises in his first season as head coach for the St. John’s Red Storm. The Red Storm are going through a rough patch with five consecutive defeats capped off by an 83-65 defeat at Providence as a 16.5 point dog. The Friars took a 12 point lead in to the locker room and kept the pressure on until the final buzzer. With Providence sinking shots at 49% with more threes and free throws the Red Storm’s 36.5% accuracy and ten more looks did not help them. Yankuba Sima led St John’s with 14 points and eight rebounds on 6-9 while Felix Balamou and Amar Alibegovic combined for 21 points.
Xavier are 9-1 ATS in their last 10 games overall and are 8-2 ATS in their last 10 Wednesday games. St. John’s are 3-14 ATS in their last 17 games overall and the over is 16-7 in their last 23 vs. Big East. I am basing this on potential and can’t say lay the road chalk with good conscience…
