The Appalachian State Mountaineers look to slow down the red hot Texas-Arlington Mavericks on Thursday.
If you want to describe the Texas-Arlington Mavericks all you need to say is they score a lot of points and don’t allow many which is why they are 11-2. The surging Mavericks have won six in a row capped off by a 92-72 win versus Georgia Southern. UTA threw 50 points on the board over the final 20 minutes to break open a three point game. The Mavericks fired away at almost 52% with 14 bombs and nine more free throws which the 38% Eagles couldn’t compete with despite forcing 21 turnovers and totaling ten more shots. Kevin Hervey led all scorers with 25 points and 13 rebounds with Drew Charles adding 16 points and six boards. Erick Neal netted 12 points and handed out eight assists while Kaelon Wilson chipped in with ten points.

The Appalachian State Mountaineers have been in damage control for awhile with not enough scoring or defensive stops and the result is a 2-11 record. The Mountaineers have dropped eight in a row after a 79-58 loss at Louisiana-Lafayette as a 16 point underdog Saturday. The Ragin’ Cajuns were up 21 heading to the locker room and coasted the rest of the way with 47.5% shooting adding up to eight more baskets versus the 33% shooting Mountaineers who were just 3-17 from long range. Frank Eaves was the best offensive option for ASU with 19 points with Ronshad Shabazz tossing in eleven points on 4-4 from the field with a game high seven turnovers.
Texas-Arlington are 10-1 ATS in their last 11 games overall and the under is 6-2 in their last 8 road games while the over is 8-3 in their last 11 vs. Sun Belt. Appalachian State are 3-9-1 ATS in their last 13 vs. Sun Belt and the under is 11-5 in their last 16 home games. The Mavericks have been showing no mercy and that’s what I’m counting on here…
