USA TODAY Sports

The Loyola Marymount Lions lost their 3rd consecutive game and dropped to 7-7 (0-3 WCC) on the season after being defeated by the Pepperdine Waves, 68-65 in OT, this past Saturday. Loyola Marymount trailed for the majority of the game but was able to force OT however, struggled offensively in the OT hitting just 2 of their last shot attempts. Loyola Marymount shot 37.3% from the field and 26.3% (5-19) from beyond the arc in the loss. The Lions allowed Pepperdine to shoot 43.1% from the field and was outrebounded by Pepperdine by a 46-36 margin. Leading the way for Loyola Marymount was Adom Jacko who had 21 points and 9 rebounds. On the season, the Lions have been led by Adom Jacko (14.5 ppg, 6.7 rpg), Brandon Brown (13.8 ppg, 2.8 rpg, 5.4 apg, 1.3 spg), and Steven Haney (12.5 ppg, 2.9 rpg, 1.1 apg). Offensively, Loyola Marymount is averaging 71.9 ppg on 41.2% shooting from the field and 33.6% shooting from beyond the arc. The Lions average 7.4 three-pointers per game and have an assist/turnover ratio of 1.29. Defensively, Loyola Marymount is allowing their opponents to average 73.4 ppg on 44.5% shooting. The Lions have a rebound margin of -2.5 and a turnover margin of 4.1.

The Gaels are 8-0 ATS in their last games following a ATS win and 4-1 ATS in their last 5 road games. The Lions are 5-2 ATS in their last 7 games vs. a team with a winning straight up record and 2-5 ATS in their last 7 home games.

Saint Mary’s has been one of the most impressive teams in the country so far this season as they have been outstanding on both sides of the ball. Loyola Marymount has played well this season and even gave Boise State a run for their money on the road but needs to continue to find answers on the defense end. Saint Mary’s is one of the best offensive teams in the country as they rank 1st in FG% and 2nd in three-point FG%. The Gaels has to replace their whole starting five from a year ago but they currently look as impressive as ever and I expect the Gaels to continue their solid play against the Lions on Thursday. Take Saint Mary’s to cover this spread on the road.
