The Western Michigan Broncos lock horns with the Akron Zips in MAC action Friday.
The Western Michigan Broncos tend to play a number of close games and with Connar Tava out with his scoring and rebounding it makes life even more difficult. The Broncos opened up MAC play with an 87-84, overtime loss to visiting Kent State as a 1.5 point dog on Tuesday. WMU shot the ball at 44% but hurt themselves with 19 turnovers which helped the 45.8% shooting Golden Flashes to eleven more looks at the basket and six more field goals to help compensate for a 3-16 effort on threes. The Broncos leaned on Thomas Wilder and he responded with a game high 28 points and six pulls on 9-15 with Tucker Haymond adding 18 points and eight boards. Kellen McCormick tossed in 16 while AJ Avery chipped in with nine points and hauled in ten points.

The Akron Zips were supposed to be one of the top teams in the MAC and so far they kook the part with plenty of scoring and defense. The Zips have rattled off nine consecutive victories capped off by a 75-71 win at Buffalo in their conference opener. The Bulls owned a 45.5%-40.6% shooting edge but Akron used strong offensive rebounding to generate nine more shot along with a 12-5 edge on threes to squeeze out the win. Antonio Jackson led a trio of double digit scorers with 16 points and seven helpers with Reggie McAdams and Isaiah Johnson netting 14 points apiece with Johnson grabbing nine rebounds. Kwan Cheatham Jr. and Jake Kretzer added eight points each and combined for eleven boards in a very balanced attack.
The under is 7-2 in WMU last 9 road games and the over is 8-3 in their last 11 Friday games. The under is 26-7 in Akron last 33 home games and the under is 11-4 in their last 15 Friday games while the under is 8-3 in their last 11 overall. WMU are 1-7 ATS in the last 8 meetings in Akron and the favorite is 20-7 ATS in the last 27 meetings. The Zips have fared well at home versus the Broncos but the chalk makes me a bystander…
