The Evansville Purple Aces had their six game winning streak snapped and dropped to 13-3 (2-1 MVC) on the season after being defeated by the Wichita State Shockers, 67-64, this past Wednesday. Evansville was down 32-27 at halftime and although they were able to tie the game late in the contest, couldn’t pull off the victory after allowing the Shockers to hit a couple big three-pointers. Evansville shot 47.8% from the field and committed 13 turnovers in the loss. The Purple Aces allowed the Shockers to shoot 44.1% shooting from the field and 38.9% (7-18) from beyond the arc. Leading the way for Evansville was Egidijus Mockevicius who had 9 points, 16 rebounds, 3 blocks, and a steal. On the season, the Purple Aces have been led by D.J. Balentine (21.1 ppg, 3.4 rpg, 4.8 apg), Egidijus Mockevicius (17.9 ppg, 14.5 rpg, 2.8 bpg), and Jaylon Brown (11.0 ppg, 1.9 rpg, 3.4 apg). Offensively, Evansville is averaging 79.9 ppg on 52.2% shooting from the field and 35.2% shooting from beyond the arc. The Purple Aces average 4.8 three-pointers per game and have an assist/turnover ratio of 1.55. Defensively, Evansville is holding their opponents to an average of 68.1 ppg on 41.4% shooting. The Purple Aces have a rebound margin of 6.6 and a turnover margin of -0.8.
The Braves are 19-39-2 ATS in their last 60 vs. MVC opponents and 16-33-2 ATS in their last 51 road games. The Purple Aces are 5-2-1 ATS in their last 8 games overall and 2-9-1 ATS in their last 12 road games.
Bradley has been one of the worst offensive teams this year averaging just over 55 ppg and have one of the youngest teams in the MVC this season. Evansville is a solid team with an outstanding big man in Egidijus Mockevicius who is a double-double machine. Bradley surprising play Evansville tough in both matchups last season, however, I just can’t trust the Braves offense that has put up just 48.6 ppg in their three MVC games so far this season and have lost those three games by an average of 28 ppg. This is a ton of points, but I think Evansville will cover against the Braves.
