USA TODAY Sports

The Indiana State Sycamores won their 2nd consecutive game and improved to 8-7 (2-1) on the season after defeating the Drake Bulldogs, 79-69, this past Wednesday. Indiana State jumped all over Drake from the start and took a 46-26 halftime lead, but had to hang on for the victory after the Bulldogs got within four late in the game. Indiana State shot 44.3% from the field and 42.1% (8-19) from beyond the arc. The Sycamores held the Bulldogs to 41.8% shooting from the field and won the turnover battle by a 14-6 margin. Leading the way for Indiana State was Devonte Brown who had 27 points, 8 rebounds, 1 steal, and a block. On the season, the Sycamores have been led by Devonte Brown (15.2 ppg, 5.1 rpg, 3.1 apg), Brenton Scott (13.3 ppg, 3.7 rpg, 1.7 apg), and Kristin Smith (11.1 ppg, 6.2 rpg, 2.0 apg, 1.5 spg). Offensviely, Indiana State is averaging 68.8 ppg on 40.8% shooting from the field and 31.9% shooting from beyond the arc. The Sycamores average 6.8 three-pointers per game and have an assist/turnover ratio of 0.90. Defensively, Indiana State is holding their opponents to an average of 66.9 ppg on 41.3% shooting from the field. The Sycamores have a rebound margin of -0.9 and a turnover margin of 1.6.

The Redbirds are 5-2 ATS in their last 7 games following a straight up win however, just 2-9 ATS in their last 11 Saturday games. The Sycamores are 4-0-1 ATS in their last 5 home games and 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games vs. MVC opponents.

Illinois State has gotten off to MVC conference play winning its first three games, however, those three wins have come against teams that currently have a combined 1-8 record in MVC play. Indiana State can struggle offensively, but has one of the better defensives in the MVC and has played well over its last six games holding their opponents to an average of just 64.3 ppg. Illinois State has a great player in DeVaughn Akoon-Purcell however, I think the Red Birds will struggle on the offensive end at Indiana State and that Sycamores will do enough to cover this home spread. Take Indiana State to cover.
