The St. Bonaventure Bonnies collide with the Massachusetts Minutemen Saturday afternoon.
I’m willing to bet when people discuss the Atlantic Ten that the St. Bonaventure Bonnies are not the topic of discussion. If the 10-3 Bonnies keep winning they will be as the team has ‘quietly’ won seven of eight with six coming by double figures. The Bonnies were solid at both ends of the floor in a 77-58 win at George Mason with a 40-24 second half run busting open a close game. The Bonnies held a slight 41%-38% shooting edge with a few more baskets, threes and free throws adding up to a big win. Marcus Posley gave St Bonaventure a monster effort with a game high 30 points and five yanks on 8-17 with Jaylen Adams tossing in 16. Denzel Greg was next in line with 12 points while Dion Wright added eight points and 12 rebounds.

The Massachusetts Minutemen were a 900 pound gorilla a season ago and even though they bring a winning record to the table we notice the loss of talent. The Minutemen average 78 points and allow almost as many so the offense can’t afford a bad night like they had Wednesday in a 93-63 loss at Dayton that was never close with the Flyers jumping to a 16 point first half lead. UMass connected at 44% but issue was 16 turnovers gave 56.7% shooting Dayton ten more shots they never needed. Donta Clark and Trey Davis were the Massachusetts go to guys offensively with 21 points apiece on 13-25 shooting while four others combined for another 22 points.
The over is 6-2 in St Bonaventure last 8 Saturday games. The over is 8-2 in UMass last 10 vs. Atlantic 10 and is 11-5 in MASS last 16 overall. The Bonnies are a pretty good team and UMass lost some talent so St Bonaventure in basically a pick ‘em is what I’m looking at…
