The UNLV Rebels tangle with the Utah State Aggies in Mountain West action Tuesday.
The UNLV Rebels have plenty of scoring and stopping power which has them sitting at 11-7. The Rebels have not been the model of consistency and are hoping back to back wins is the start of something good. The Rebels are coming off of a 100-64 demolition of visiting Air Force that was never competitive with the lead at 28 after 20 minutes. The Falcons hit at 43% but it didn’t matter what they did with UNLV sinking half their looks with 12more shots and a near perfect 19-20. Derrick Jones Jr. led the offense with 22 points and ten rebounds on 9-15 with Jerome Seagears netting 17 points. Stephen Zimmerman Jr. added 14 points and 12 boards while four others scored eight points.

The Utah State Aggies are off to a solid 11-6 start but their fate likely depends on what happens in the conference. The Aggies have a chance to do something following consecutive victories capped off by a 96-92 decision at Colorado State as a 2.5 point road dog. The Rams found the bottom of the net at 46% with a 15-36 mark on threes while USU connected at 50% including a 13-27 effort from distance with six more free throws being the biggest difference. Chris Smith saved the Aggies with 35 points and 13 rebounds while Julion Pierre dropped 19 points. Jaylen Moore added 16 points and 12 rebounds with Lew Evans and Shane Rector scoring 12 and ten points respectively.
The under is 7-1 in UNLV last 8 road games and UNLV are 12-4 ATS in their last 16 road games while the over is 6-2 in their last 8 Tuesday games. The over is 17-5 in Utah State last 22 vs. Mountain West and is 18-6 in the Aggies last 24 overall while going 43-18-1 in their last 62 home games. UNLV has not played as expected until the last two times out when HC Dave Rice resigned because of poor play. This will be a huge test for the Rebels and I wonder if they are worth the risk…
