Wichita State has a 35-30 halftime lead in this one and used an early 10-0 run in the 2nd half to take control of the game and secure the win. Wichita State shot 40.7% from the field and won the turnover battle by a 16-5 margin. The Shockers held the Sycamores to 35.2% shooting from the field and 28.6% (6-21) shooting from beyond the arc. Leading the way for Wichita State was Fred VanVleet who scored a career high 29 points while chipping in 3 rebounds, 5 assists, and 3 steals. USA TODAY Sports

The Northern Iowa Panthers dropped their 2nd straight game and fell to 10-9 (2-4 MVC) on the season after being defeated by the Loyola (CHI) Ramblers, 51-41, this past Saturday. Northern Iowa struggled offensively throughout the game in this one and allowed the Ramblers to close out the game on a 13-3 run in the loss. Northern Iowa shot just 27.1% from the field and 29.2% (7-24) from beyond the arc. The Panthers allowed the Ramblers to shoot 42.6% from the field and as outrebounded by Loyola (CHI) by a 37-31 margin. Leading the way for Northern Iowa was Jeremy Morgan who had 15 points, 5 rebounds, 2 assists, and 3 steals. On the season, the Panthers have been led by Wes Washpun (14.5 ppg, 4.5 rpg, 5.4 apg, 1.2 spg), Matt Bohannon (12.3 ppg, 3.9 rpg), and Paul Jesperson (11.6 ppg, 5.1 rpg). Offensviely, Northern Iowa is averaging 71.1 ppg on 47.1% shooting from the field and 38.1% shooting from beyond the arc. The Panthers average 8.6 three-pointers per game and have an assist/turnover ratio of 1.15. Defensively, Northern Iowa is holding their opponents to an average of 66.1 ppg on 43.9% shooting. The Panthers have a rebound margin of -2.9 and a turnover margin of 1.5.

The Shockers are 6-1 ATS in their last 7 games overall and 37-17-2 ATS in their last 56 games vs. MVC opponents. The Panthers are 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games following a double-digit loss at home and 12-4-1 ATS in their last 1 home games.

Wichita State is once again rolling led by a solid defense and their two stars in Ron Baker and Fred VanVleet. Northern Iowa has been a dominant team at home over the years and although they had a surprisingly off night in their recent matchup against Loyola (CHI), the Panthers are still a team that can light it up from anywhere on the court. The Wichita State vs. Northern Iowa matchup has been the marquee matchup in the MVC over the past few years and although I expect the Panthers to put up a better performance than what we’ve seen as of late, I think the Shockers are rolling right now and will be able to cover this road spread. Take Wichita State to cover.
